Shia Labeouf begins 4-year live-stream
Shia Labeouf shows up to the 2014 Berlin Film Festival with a bag over his head with the words “I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE” inscribed on the bag. This later turned into Rönkkö, Turner and Labeouf performing for six days at a Los Angeles art exhibit. This piece was titled “IAMSORRY” and became the first of several projects over the years.
On the day of Donald Trump’s Inauguration as the 45th President of the United States of America a trio started their next project outside the Museum of the Moving Image, New York. Members of this triumvirate are Nastja Säde Rönkkö, Luke Turner and none other than the infamous Shia Labeouf.
Rönkkö, Turner and Labeouf’s piece outside of the Museum of the Moving Image consists of the words “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US” printed above a camera overlooking a seemingly empty lot. The website that hosts the live-stream invites the public to come and chant the words on the wall.
Everything that takes place in front of this camera for the next four years of Donald’s presidency will be available to watch as the stream never stops. The camera has already captured moments of massive crowds repeating the wall’s message for prolonged periods of time, a man crab-walking up to the camera, another man reciting the entire introduction of “The Dark Knight Rises” by himself, Labeouf being arrested, one individual walking up to the camera and saying “praise Kek” and smaller groups of people debating politics while listening to music late at night.
It’s those moments, late at night, where people argue about ideology and then precede to make jokes about George Soros, or take selfies together after debating politics all night that the true message of the art piece comes to play. This live-stream is about being a forum for any individual to come and talk about whatever they want.
