‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ is just another cliche love story

The hottest movie of the summer. Very positive reviews from teenagers all over the internet. Starring the newly popular teen “heartthrob” Noah Centineo. Yes, we’re talking about the insanely popular Netflix original movie “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.” Sit back, get some popcorn and enjoy a review that you don’t want to miss.

WARNING: SPOILER ALERTS AHEAD “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” started with junior Lara Jean Covey talking about how she writes love letters to her past crushes. Lara Jean, described by many at the beginning of the movie, is not what you would consider “popular” in your typical high school movies, which plays a somewhat major role in the movie. While going through Lara Jean’s things, her little sister Kitty discovers the hatbox full of letters from past loves and crushes, which foreshadows later that Kitty was the one that sent the letters out to all of the boys she’s loved before. The letters get out and one letter happens to be to the most popular guy in school, Peter Kavinsky. Peter had said that him and his girlfriend had broken up and he wanted to get back at her and make her want him again, with Lara Jean’s help. Over a course of a few months, they pretend to be in a relationship: posting pictures together, sitting with each other at lunch and of course partaking in your typical high school PDA. What each other didn’t know is that they were starting to develop real feelings for each other. They get in a fight and break things off after Lara Jean discovers that Peter went back to his ex’s room at a school skiing trip, which then ends with them getting back together, for real this time.

The movie as a whole wasn’t my favorite. It was a bit overrated, and it was kind of your typical teen romantic movie. There would be many things that I would change about this movie, for one being the script. The whole movie was just predictable, and I personally thought it was an hour and a half of time that was wasted that I could’ve been doing something productive. The acting was mediocre for a Netflix original movie; that being said, Janel Parrish, who plays Margot, was the best actor in the movie. Some may say the book is much better than the movie; unfortunately, I have not read the book. If you like cheesy rom-coms, this movie is for you; I however, do not recommend this movie. If you’re scrolling through Netflix and you see this movie, do me a favor and keep scrolling.
