Swim team members McKenzie Dohm, Brooklin Voss, Clairese Kluba and Jacqueline Kluba pose for a photo before their workout led by Samantha Loepker after school Nov. 19. “The swimmers that we have are really good,” Moreland said. “So overall I think we will do a lot better last year.” The girls first meet was Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Winter sports are heating up this November with the start up of girls swim, and early mornings, soreness and a tight-knit team are what will help the girls achieve their goals this season.

“I’m really looking forward to getting to know the girls a lot,” sophomore Aubrie Moreland said. “At this point I think our team is really good. The swimmer’s that we have are really good, so I think overall we will do a lot better than last year.”

Although there isn’t a large number of new team members this year, swimmers continue to strive toward achieving their goals, both personally and as a team.

“Personally, I would like to go to state again like I did last year,” Moreland said, “but as a whole, I would like to do better point-wise and feel more accomplished with our swims.”

Swimming can be a tiresome sport, so it is important for the girls to have some fun during the season while they are putting in the work.

“You’re just in a good mood whenever you’re swimming,” senior Zoe Sykes said. “The best part is that it lasts a lifetime. My coach is currently in his late 70s and he’s still swimming til this day. You can be any age and still swim.”

As far as expectations for this season, the girls expect a few team members and possibly a relay team to go to state this year. In order to make it happen, motivation is extremely important for the swim team.

“Knowing that in the end, to see the improvement I’ve made from the beginning of the season to the end of the season,”  Moreland said, “is what motivates me to come to practice every morning.”
