Senior Samantha Hymer writes reviews for all book genres on the eMissourian. “I try to write one once a week,” Hymer said. “They always have reviews online once a week.”

Reading is a very important aspect of many students’ lives. For WHS senior Samantha Hymer, however, reading has a different meaning, as she writes book reviews for a column in the eMissourian.

“I try to write one once a week,” Hymer said, “then on the blog once a week.”

Hymer had the position recommended to her through a friend.

“It expands my mind, and I love reading the books,” Hymer said. “Also, we get to keep all of the books, so that’s a plus.”

Though she reads and reviews books from all genres, she has a soft spot for mystery novels.

“I really enjoy mystery because I like solving puzzles and figuring out what happened,” Hymer said. “I also like the suspense.”

Through this experience, she feels that she has become a better writer.

“It’s good to go out of your comfort zone and try something new,” Hymer said, “whether it’s a different genre of book, or even writing.”

Hymer enjoys what she’s doing with the eMissourian, and she wants to continue doing tasks like this in the future.

“If the opportunity comes along,” Hymer said, “I would love to do something like this again.”
