Perfect Pandemics

Five pandemic movies to watch while quarantined

Life as we know it has changed whether we like it or not. Quarantine has caused boredom and a lot of extra time on everyone’s hands. This extra time needs to be filled, and what better to fill it than movies about viruses and pandemics. The following movies are perfect to watch as we all navigate through this uncharted territory caused by COVID-19.

Contagion: Rated PG-13

This 2011 movie is about one hour and 47 minutes long and is a fictional story about an unknown virus that causes a pandemic. The panic surrounding the deadly infection starts when Beth Emhoff and then her son die from an unknown virus. Emhoff’s husband, however, lives and is immune. Emhoff’s husband starts the spread of this virus and it continues to spread, but days go by before a true understanding of the severity of the virus is grasped. Doctors and administrators at the CDC work to find a cure, but first they have to discover what the virus is and then they can find a way to combat it. This process is long and while they are racing for a cure, millions of people are infected worldwide. Society starts to panic and loses its grip on humanity. Will the CDC find the cure and stop the deaths of millions of people? The only way to find out is to watch. Contagion is available to rent on Amazon for $3.99.

Carriers: Rated PG-13

Made in 2009, Carriers is about one hour and 24 minutes long and is a fictional story about four survivors of a viral pandemic. As a pandemic rages, four friends make their way through the desert to find safety away from the infection. On their way to safety, many obstacles appear in their path. Will they succeed through working together, or will the pandemic put a strain on their friendship? See for yourself, because Carriers is available on Netflix.

Pandemic: Not Rated

Pandemic was released in 2016 and takes around one hour and 32 minutes to finish. If zombies are more your style when it comes to pandemic movies, then this is the movie I would suggest. Pandemic follows a team led by a doctor, Dr. Chase, whose purpose is to find survivors of the pandemic. While fighting zombies and risking infection, this team braves through the streets to search and rescue any survivors. Any survivors will be brought to the facility where the infected are monitored, treated and euthanized, then given shelter. On a mission to save the human race, Dr. Chase and her team face the many challenges thrown at them and will hopefully prove to be victorious. Pandemic is available on Amazon Prime.

Flu: Not Rated

Flu was made in 2013 and is two hours and one minute long. If you have no trouble with reading subtitles, this Korean film will prove to be worth your while. A deadly respiratory virus is introduced to the public after the patient dies who showed up to a hospital covered in red rashes and coughing up blood. Soon after, this virus starts to spread throughout the city and many people fall victim to it. The death count rises and everyone struggles to stay safe. A lockdown is placed on the city in an attempt to keep everyone safe, but no one is truly safe when a virus threatens to put an end to the human race. Flu is available on Amazon Prime.

Containment: Not Rated

Containment is one hour and 17 minutes long and was released in 2015. An apartment complex is surprised when they wake up and discover they are locked in. The building is surrounded by people in hazmat suits, and panic starts to rise. With no knowledge of what is happening, those who are quarantined lose their grip on reality and turn on each other. The protagonist, Mark, and a few of his neighbors team up to find the real reason they are being quarantined, and hopefully fast, because paranoia and panic start to consume the residents in the apartment complex. Containment is available on Amazon Prime.
