From a young age, kids are rightfully taught to honor and thank the people who put their lives on the line as protection for their country. Although the thankfulness should be held in our hearts year round, Veterans Day is the one day everyone across the United States stands united to reflect upon the heroism of all those serving, or who have served.
“Veterans day is a day to respect and honor everyone who sacrificed their own freedoms to allow us to have ours,” junior Kinsey Kamper said.
Not only are Veterans giving up their own free will, but also their families. Agreeing to fight for your country knowing you’ll have to leave your family and home is the ultimate sacrifice.
“Choosing to be in the military is a sacrifice of basic decisions and comfort but can also be very rewarding and allow you to have many opportunities,” senior Caitlyn Seyer said.
Being in the military is a position that may present various hardships, but can also provide someone with opportunities of a lifetime.
“It was my privilege to serve. Many of the luxuries I have in life are a result of my years in the Marine Corps,” Master Sergeant Tim Gates said. “If young people today truly understood the benefits of serving in the military and the changes serving will make in you as a person, many more would be jumping at the opportunity to serve.”
All in all, no veteran should ever go unrecognized. Regardless of any opinion about our troops, the bottomline is they are fighting to provide our country with freedom.
“Without our soldiers we would have nothing as nicely as we do today, and it is a great career but difficult one too,” senior Sean Barry said. “All who serve have done an honorable deed and choose a selfless decision.”
