Leading with an exciting cast and beautiful music score, “Mary Poppins Returns” was one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2018. While it received positive feedback from critics and numerous nominations, fans are wary of the plotline and its commitment to the original film.

In this sequel, Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) struggles to support his three children and sister Jane (Emily Mortimer) after taking a loan for his home after his wife died. Little did they know, their childhood nanny Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) continues to oversee the siblings and comes to their rescue by supplying adventure and magic. The movie takes the enchanting tricks from its predecessor and twists them into a modern experience.

Being the follow up of the incredible 1964 film starring Julie Andrews, it is difficult to appease the crowds. Many claimed that the film didn’t stay true to the magic of the original, and that it was too long (running at about two hours and 10 minutes).

This is only the beginning for Disney live-action remakes being released in 2019. “Aladdin,” “The Lion King” and “Dumbo” are among the few. Disney also has a couple of sequels set to be released in 2019, such as “Toy Story 4.”

The magic and wonder of Mary Poppins will forever touch the hearts of people everywhere. I enjoyed the return of this classic film, yet the original holds onto its top spot as the prime definition of fascination.
