‘Detective Pikachu’: A movie for Pokemon fans
“Detective Pikachu” stars Ryan Reynolds as Detective Pikachu, Justice Smith as Tim Goodman and Kathryn Newton as Lucy Stevens. In a story, Tim teams up with Pikachu in order to find his father.
Now I wasn’t the biggest Pokemon fan back when I was a kid, but I still enjoyed watching the shows and collecting the cards. When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I was excited to go see it, but I thought it would be an above average movie.
I am happy to say it was better then I expected. I thought the comedy was good, especially from Reynolds’ character, who I believe gave it his all in the movie. And I felt the story was decent for the type of movie it was.
Even though I enjoyed the movie, it does come with its problems, such as the villain is too predictable because the person who plays the character in every movie has been typecast as the villain in nearly all his films. Also, I felt the pacing was off in the movie because at some points it felt like scenes were missing or things happened too quickly, but that just might be me. I also wanted to add in here that if you are not a fan of Pokemon, you will not enjoy or understand this movie because this movie was made specifically for Pokemon fans. So if you have no knowledge of what goes on in the Pokemon universe, you will be lost.
For any Pokemon fans out there, I would highly recommend you go and see this movie because it was made with you in mind. With that being said, I would give this movie a ⅘, and I hope they make a sequel to this because I want to know what comes next.
