Taylor Swift releasing her nationally acclaimed Eras Tour as a film in theaters has caused a stir. It has broken many records including the first concert movie to make over $100 million, highest first day ticket sales in 2023, and more. I had the chance to watch her film in the theater and overall I was impressed.
I was a bit skeptical about watching a concert like a movie, since that’s not the intended viewing experience of a concert, but I found it very enjoyable. You’d never get that type of view in any concert seat; you could see all the dancers, the sets and of course, Taylor in crisp quality.
Many people commented on the length of the film, but the time didn’t feel very long to me. It could have been the fact I knew all the songs and got excited every time a new one started, so people who aren’t huge fans might find it a bit long. It is definitely not boring though, each era brings new sets, costumes and choreography. And while these things are pretty and flashy, there was also times that Taylor played acoustic, which gave the show a more personal level. It was nice to break up all the props and dancing and enjoy just a quieter moment with her and her guitar.
I was a bit nervous about what kind of environment and etiquette was supposed to be implemented, since at a concert you sing, dance and scream, but this was a theater. I was hoping to enjoy the concert sitting down and singing. Thankfully everyone in my showtime seemed to want the same, as everyone was having fun but staying seated. I have seen shows where many people are running around and dancing in the isles and in front of the screen. I think this is a bit much since it’s a movie not a real concert, and it can be very distracting for other people.
Overall, I really enjoyed my experience watching the Eras Tour movie. Since I was not able to get tickets to the concert, this was a nice way to still see the concert. I was able to see the concert with the best view, and still be able to sing along to the songs with my friends. There was some questionable theater etiquette with the concert, but I think it could be hard to regulate that. But I think the concert is very impressive and I would recommend seeing it to anyone who likes Taylor Swift.
