On Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, the graduating class of 2017 made WHS history. The senior class won the annual Homecoming Powderpuff game 39-19, coming out on top for two years in a row.

The junior class scored the first touchdown early into the 40 minute game. However, after the first senior possession, the junior class never gained the lead again.

“All the senior girls are really athletic,” senior Cassidy Nurnberger said. “The plays we ran really helped because they were just kind confusing but worked well together.”

Before the game, the seniors were very determined to become the first WHS class to win both years. In order to do this, the senior coaches had one plan on how to win: get the lead.

“We knew we wanted to start the game with the lead,” senior Joe Omer said. “We wanted to carry this lead throughout both halves, which would end in a double victory for the seniors.”

For spectators and players alike, no matter the class they supported, getting to see the senior class become a team for one of the last times before graduation meant more than the final score on the scoreboard.

“I always remember the senior camaraderie,” senior Emma Pabst said. “You get to be around all these girls that you might not talk to a lot, and you get to come together as one while playing a really fun game.”
