Students participate in Mr.WHS

Mr.WHS is a classic tradition at Washington High School and features a twist on the traditional male beauty pageant by consisting of a swimsuit, formal wear and talent competition. The 13 students who participated this year gained inspiration for their skits in unique ways.

“My mom gave me the idea for my skit because we like to joke around and say we’re big all the time and Hans and Franz from SNL is about weightlifting, so it fit perfect,” junior Andrew Nolan said.

Skits are a major part of the show and students dedicated a lot of time to learning them.

“We had a month of three hour practices before the show,” senior Scott Vanek said.

However, practices weren’t always fun and didn’t always go as planned.

“The worst part is the practices, and it’s hard to keep everyone in line,” senior Austin Lewis said.

Even with tough practices, participation in WHS is still an enjoyable experience for the students.

”I just thought it would be a fun time because being with the guys is always fun,” senior Dylan Brocato said.

Mr.WHS is typically thought of as a senior activity, but two juniors joined in this year.

“It was alright being a junior because I am friends with all the seniors,” Nolan said, “but a lot of people don’t do Mr.WHS as a junior because you won’t win, but I thought it was a good experience.”

Although it takes a lot of hard work, it is a great experience for the students and brings fun to WHS.

It’s just a  blast and it’s just fun being with all the guys,” Lewis said. “Performing in front of a crowd is nerve-wracking at first and then you get over it and it’s just a fun time.”

The students recommend  doing Mr.WHS to underclassmen to help keep the tradition going.

“I recommend it to all underclassmen because it’s a really good time,” Vanek said.
