Coachella 2017 Weekend One
Every year thousands of people from across the country, or even farther, gather in Indio California to celebrate the biggest musical fest of the year…Coachella.
Coachella is two weekends in April this year, the 14-16 and 21-23. The 14th was highlighted with Father John Misty and his rock and roll lulling the crowd with the sunset. Singer The XX highlighted that night with Radiohead, the headliner, who experienced sound issues all night. Luckily that night, Travis Scott made the crowd go wild performing his many smash hits.
Saturday was turned up a notch. Rapper Future surprised the crowd by bringing out last year’s headliner, Drake, to sing with on the several songs they have co-operated together on. It was Future’s Coachella debut and he made it one to remember, also bringing the Migos out to sing with him. He also performed one of the hottest tracks out right now, “Mask Off.” Then Lady Gaga, that night’s headliner, stepped in late for the pregnant Beyoncé. No one would know if she would be properly prepared or not. She sang 90 minutes with no accompaniment. All her famous pop songs with some rock were featured that night.
Sunday, the last day of the first weekend, was highly anticipated. The highlights were German composer Hans Zimmer, Lorde, followed by the headline of the weekend, Kendrick Lamar. Lamar was debuting the live performance for his newest studio album, “Damn” released April 14. He brought out Future to sing “Mask Off” and closed the night shortly after.
This capped off the start of another exciting year for Coachella. “Rappers were definitely the theme of Coachella,” Rolling Stones said in a recent article. Who knows what theme the 21-23 weekend will bring to us.
