Theresa McGowan

What is your job title?- “School Counselor”

This is your ___ year of teaching/working in the education field- “14”

If you are a classroom teacher, please list all of the classes that you teach.- [not a classroom teacher]

What is one fun fact about yourself? (This could be a unique talent or interest, or just something you enjoy doing.)- “I am a sports fanatic – especially soccer, basketball, and Cardinals baseball. I also enjoy cooking and taking my 80 lb. goldendoodle, Sketch, on daily walks.”

What is your favorite high school memory, or what did you enjoy most about high school?- “Probably my fondest memory is when our high school basketball team went to state my freshman year.  I also look back on the many awesome memories I made just hanging out with my friends.”

What made you want to become a teacher/work in the education field?- “I was inspired big-time by several of my teachers and coaches in high school and wanted to be able to make the same impact on my own students someday.  Hopefully, I’ve achieved that.”

 

Amy Fecke

If you are a classroom teacher, please list all of the classes that you teach.- “Applied Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry”

What is one fun fact about yourself? (This could be a unique talent or interest, or just something you enjoy doing.)- “I play in an adult kickball league!”

What is your favorite high school memory, or what did you enjoy most about high school?- “Reaching the final four in state volleyball in 1999.”

What made you want to become a teacher/work in the education field?- “I’ve always enjoyed helping others understand concepts. I come from a family of teachers (mother, grandmother, great aunt and uncle, and 4 immediate cousins), it must be in our blood.”

 

Sarah Johnson

What is your job title?- “German teacher”

This is your ___ year of teaching/working in the education field- “20”

If you are a classroom teacher, please list all of the classes that you teach.- “German I, II, III, IV, and Honors V”

What is one fun fact about yourself? (This could be a unique talent or interest, or just something you enjoy doing.)- “I am originally from Ireland. I speak four languages: English, German, Irish and Italian. My entire family plays Irish traditional music, and we are very active in the Irish community in St. Louis. I teach here as well as at Washington University and Forest Park Community College.”

What is your favorite high school memory, or what did you enjoy most about high school?- “It’s probably not surprising, but my German teacher was the most influential person in my high school career. She showed us how to work hard to achieve what we believed in. She demonstrated her hard work in school daily.”

What made you want to become a teacher/work in the education field?- “I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was 5 years old. School was rough for us. Corporal punishment was still very acceptable in Ireland when I was a small child. After having to go to the hospital as a result of the actions of a teacher, i was determined to be the kind of teacher that would put those mean teachers to shame.”

 

Tim Gates

What is your job title?- “Naval Science Instructor”

If you are a classroom teacher, please list all of the classes that you teach.- “Naval Science I-IV”

What is one fun fact about yourself? (This could be a unique talent or interest, or just something you enjoy doing.)- “I love sports.”

What is your favorite high school memory, or what did you enjoy most about high school?- “My favorite classes in high school were Physical Education and anything related to math.  I also enjoyed lunch!”

What made you want to become a teacher/work in the education field?- “When I retired from the military, I tried to find something that was as fulfilling as being a Marine.  My first job required me to take a personality test and that test said I would enjoy being a teacher.  At first, I laughed because I was not a very good high school student.  But, the more I thought about it, I spent the majority of my time in the Marines teaching younger Marines how things were done.  So, I decided to give it a try.”
