The power of quotes
“Inspirational quotes” are everywhere these days. From social media pages dedicated to them, to being plastered on the sides of buildings via murals and graffiti. Although many seem cheesy and inauthentic, others are quite encouraging.
There are a few in particular that resonate with me. I personally believe everyone has a few of said quotes that naturally fit them like a glove, enveloping every aspect of their life or their morals into a simple, short sentence. One that impacts me specifically was originally from the openly gay American basketball player, Jason Collins. Soon after he publicly addressed his sexuality, he said, “I want to do the right thing and not hide anymore. I want to march for tolerance, acceptance, and understanding. I want to take a stand and say ‘me too’”.
First off, Collins is undeniably brave and a wonderful role model, and I feel like this quote is one that almost everyone can get something out of. No matter what your beliefs are, everyone has something they are especially passionate about, that to them, is worth fighting for. Weather that be a person or a moral or a religion, something, to everyone, is worth standing up for. This quote encourages people to be true to what they believe in and fight for what is right. I’d like to ask all of you to look into quotes and try to find some that speak to you. Other people’s words of inspiration can really provide support for those going through hard times.
